The story of Beatriz, textile practitioner

I'm from Cali in southwest Colombia and spoke only Spanish until I came to the canton of Uri in 2020. Thanks to classes at the Association Equilibre school and the start of my vocational training in summer 2022, my German—or even Swiss German—has improved significantly.

Everyday school life at the Swisstextil School in Zurich was challenging, as my colleagues spoke very quickly and I didn't understand everything. After the first semester, however, I was already becoming more courageous, and learning was fun. KoKoTé I completed vocational training as a textile practitioner (EBA) in Manufaktur. The most interesting part of my work is seeing how a simple piece of fabric or leather, combined with a few other elements, a sewing machine, and the dexterity of my hands, becomes a beautiful, fun, or elegant product.

My two adult children (daughter born in 1995, son born in 2003) live in Colombia. My daughter visited me at Christmas 2022. We had a wonderful time together. Unfortunately, it never snowed during that time, so she didn't see any snow in Switzerland.

In my free time I enjoy dancing salsa, going shopping and enjoying a nice evening with friends.

In summer 2024, I successfully completed my training as a textile practitioner (EBA). I ​​am pleased to be able to continue working for KoKoTé and gain practical experience in my profession.
